Michael Chernishov: ONE MAN SHOW

"Chernishov's complex nature manifests in every aspect. His systematic work with art historians and gallery owners was rejected until recently. It took considerable effort to initiate interaction with this brilliant, charismatic artist and to organize his solo exhibition in our gallery."

On June 17, Alina Pinsky Gallery opened an exhibition featuring Mikhail Chernishov, an artist whom many art critics and colleagues consider one of the leading Russian artists of the second half of the 20th century.

Mikhail Chernishov's name is not widely known to the general public, in large part due to his emigration to the United States in 1980. It may also be related to the fact that Chernishov, with his contradictory and explosive character, remained self-sufficient and distanced himself from his colleagues. He never engaged in self-promotion, focusing primarily on his art.

"I am happy that we started working with Chernishov, a figure who was difficult to access in our art world until now. Perhaps the most radical artist of his time, Chernishov staged the first performance in the USSR (1975) and used the genre of domestic installation in an exhibition context. His painting and all his work went in tune with global trends," says Alina Pinskaya.

The exhibition of Mikhail Chernishov at Alina Pinsky Gallery is retrospective in nature. It includes paintings and graphic works from the 1960s, famous for their "airplanes" and "doublings," as well as a mini-reconstruction of his apartment exhibition from 1962, fragments from happenings, and archival items. The rich material forming the basis of this retrospective was provided by the artist himself. The exhibition, titled "Mikhail Chernishov: One Man Show," is a significant event for art historians, art enthusiasts, and collectors alike. A catalog has been released for the exhibition, and the book "Mikhail Chernishov, Moscow 1961-67" has been republished.
A catalog for the exhibition was published with an introductory article by Alina Pinskaya, the founder of the eponymous gallery, art historian, and curator of the exhibition.
